The Harvey Cup team played its first match of the season on Friday 17th October against Petts Wood losing by 2.5 - 3.5. Despite a couple of regular players being unavailable Sidcup put out a strong team. The match started well with David Gilbert winning quickly. Then Gary Sharp had a solid draw and Bob Mitchell drew a game of fluctuating fortunes. Ian McAllan fell into his opponent’s opening preparation and, although he won a pawn, could not do more than draw. Keith Thompson and Don Chapman were last to finish, having games that went one way and then the other, but unfortunately for both of them theirs was the final mistake.
