{This was not a bad game played by me for the intro team. The opening I was
not sure of I had not banked on the move Nd6 it was not a move that I had
come across before but it seems it is perfectly playable and black has quite a
good game after this.} 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. O-O Nxe4 5. Re1
{Here White can have his pawn back although not knowing this opening very well
I did not calculate this properly and played BxN and then took the pawn back} Nd6
6. Bxc6 (6. Nxe5 Be7 7. Ba4 O-O {and black has a perfectly good game}) 6... dxc6
7. Nxe5 Be7 8. Nc3 O-O 9. h3 $2 {this seems to have given black a slight advantage
what I was worried about was the knight having to go back to f3 and then black playing
Bg4 ping my knight to the queen and without my white squared bishop may have had
to weaken my king side pawns to break the pin.} Bf5 10. d3 Bf6 11. Ng4 $6 {it seems
again that this was a slight inaccuaracy and protection of the knight by playing
Bf4 was better I did think of this but did not like the move Re8 and thought my
knight could be in more trouble on e5 and I was hoping he would take it with his
bishop and then I would retake with the queen} Bd4 {I thought at the time that he
had found a nice diagonal for the bishop but this did not turn out to be the case}
12. Ne3 {another slightly inaccurate move by me I should have played Be3 and had a
perfectly good game. Black at this stage had played the opening much better that me.}
Be6 13. Ne2 Bb6 14. Bd2 Qh4 $1 {an excellent move by black keeping up the pressure
on g3} 15. Ng3 {not the best defence but my idea was to free my queen and swop
chase his queen away.} f5 {I could see a nasty f4 coming here} 16. Qh5 {the only move
I could see that would stop f4} Qf6 17. Bc3 Qd8 {wrong square for the queen it lets me
back in the game and from here on in I had the better game and was able to keep up
pressure on his pieces.} 18. Nc4 Bxc4 19. dxc4 {Now I feel I have a good game and
have seen of the worst of his attack and can start to create something myself. with
my queen on the 5th rank c5 looks very promising.} f4 20. Ne4 Nxe4 $2 {This was blacks
losing move really should have played Qd7 but I am not sure that I would have found it
either. Fritz gives me 3 points lead here.} 21. Rxe4 Qd7 22. Rd1 Qf7 23. Qg5 {creating
pressure on g7. Also blacks bishop on b6 is in danger of not having a square to move to
after c5} Qg6 24. Qxg6 {could have got my c5 move in by playing} ( 24. Re5 Qxc2
25. Rd2 Qb1+ 26. Kh2 Rf7 27. c5 h6 28. Rd8+ Rxd8 29. Qxd8+ Kh7 30. cxb6 {if I
had seen the sequence.}) 24... hxg6 {I decide though that I had much the better
endgame with the pawns doubled and controlling the centre with my rooks that with
accurate play I had a win with the quuens off the board and there would be less
chance of him mounting any counter attack with queens off.} 25. Re7 {The g7
pawn was very weak} Rf7 26. Rxf7 Kxf7 27. Rd7+ Ke6 28. Rxg7 Kf5 29. Rf7+ Kg5
30. b4 {I missed g4 here thought this was not playable in view of p x enpassant
but he cannot pllay this because of} (30. g4 fxg3 31. Bd2+ Be3 32. Bxe3+ Kh5
33. Rh7# {which would have been quite a nice ending to the game if I had seen it.})
30... c5 31. b5 (31. bxc5 Bxc5 32. Rxc7 (32. g4 fxg3 33. Bd2+ Kh5 34. Rh7#)
32... Bb6 33. Rf7) 31... a6 32. Bd2 {having blocked his bishop from the defence of his
king I now felt I had a mating attack} Kh6 {he found the only move that stopped me mating him.}
(32... Kh5 33. g4+ fxg3 34. Rh7#) 33. Bxf4+ g5 34. Bxc7 {Having missed out on the
attack why not cash in on the attack by grabbing second best a pawn giving me at least
a 3 pawn advantage} Bxc7 35. Rxc7 axb5 36. cxb5 Rxa2 37. Rxc5 Rb2 38. c4 Rb1+
39. Kh2 Rb4 40. Kg3 b6 41. Rc6+ Kh5 42. f3 Ra4 43. f4 {an inaccurate continuation
of the attack giving black perhaps a slight ray of hope Kh2 with a possible g4 to
follow or c5 was better} Ra3+ {though he would play} (43... gxf4+ 44. Kxf4)
44. Kf2 gxf4 45. Rxb6 Kg5 46. Rc6 Ra2+ 47. Kf3 Ra3+ 48. Ke4 Ra2 49. b6 Rxg2
50. Rc5+ {here black has had enough and resigned probably because he saw that
he could not stop the b pawn from queening or loosing his rook} 1-0

{This was an Intro game played against Lewisham. I had played against Cerden
for the Fuller team and beat him fairly easily. On saying that these young
players can improve overnight.} 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Bc5 4. O-O Nf6 {
Playing the Ruy Lopez or Spanish Opening with the Berlin Defence.}

12. Nf3 Re8 13. Bg5 b5 {So far it has been a fairly standard opening nothing
much out of the ordinary I think these moves may have been played many time
before no real mistakes as yet} 14. Bc2 Bb7 15. d4 a5 16. a3 {maybe a4 was better
here.} Qe7 17. Nh4 h6 {Blacks first slight mistake. Should have played Bc8 in
anticipation of my next move.} 18. Nf5 Qe6 19. Bxf6 $2 {Fritz gives this rating
as bad it says I should play Bh5 here. As I intended to start my attack on the
king sided I wanted to take away this defender. His bishops were not doing a lot
place on c&b7} Qxf6 20. Qd2 {My Rook lift to e3 could have been played here but
I wanted to connect my rooks first.} Rad8 21. Re3 Bc8 22. Rf3 Bxf5 23. Rxf5 Qe6

{I give black the advantage here should have played} ( 25. exd5 Qxd5 26. Rh5 {for an
even position.}) 25... dxe4 26. Bxe4 c5 $2 {This gives the advantage back to white not
sure why he played this move but pxp was better.} 27. d5 {found the right move all
other moves keeps black with an advantage.} Qd6 28. Rg3 Rd7 29. Qe2 Bd8 {I was
looking for some sort of sacrifice opening up blacks position here but could not
find one Fritz says I played the best move.} 30. Qg4 g5 $4 {this almost gives the
game to white should have defended it with Qf8 although this is not very good for
black it keeps him in the game.} 31. Rgf3 {Qh5 may have been better. The move I made
was still good enough to win and keeps the pressure on black.} Rf8 32. h4 Qg6 $4
{f6 may have given black some chance of survival but this loses.} 33. Rf6 $2
{missed a chance ofa much better move here the following was much better but black
missed the chance of playing Qg7 thus prolonging the game.} (33. Rxg5 hxg5 (33...

as he does not have any compensation for the loss of his queen. Cerden played better
in this game although I did not take all my chances it was still a good win.

I managed in this game a strong c file.} Bf5 4. Nf3 Nd7 5. d4 e6 6. a3 c5 {perhaps not the best time
to pay this move but it does put pressure on d4 and it would break up his centre pawns and if white

to black and destroying his centre as well.} 7. Be3 Rc8 {Can play Qb6 here also although I do not
