{I had played Paul a few times over the last few years and had good results against him. I was
not expecting to play him as I though they would have Conrad Allison playing unfortunatly for them
he had exams during the next week and was unable to play. He had been there star palyer for the
year. he is now rated 141 and I was looking forward to palying a season decider against him.}
1. e4 c5 {Paul started with the Scillian a chance to play my Antii Scillian.} 2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bd3 {This is the move which changes it to an Anti- Scilliana line that is used to great
effect by Danny Kopec an International Master. And I had a great result with in the semi Final.}
e5 4. O-O a6 5. c3 Nf6 6. Bc2 { The Bishop is on a square that it is usual for the Ruy Lopz
opening} Be7 7. d3 O-O 8. Re1 d6 9. h3 h6 10. Nbd2 b5 11. Nf1 Qc7 12. Ng3 {Was fairly happy
with the way the opening had gone both players had there pieces in play my c1 Bishop was the
next piece to get into the game.} Rd8 13. Be3 {Bd2 may have been the correct square for the
Bishop but e3 is OK} d5 {This is why Bd2 was better I would loose a tempo if it was to move to
d2 now and did not want him to play d4 so this pawn must go.} 14. exd5 Rxd5 {Not the best way to
take the pawn Nxd5 was better but now if my queen does not move of the the line off the Rook his
next move would be a dangerous e4} 15. Qe2 Rd8 16. Rad1 {The idea I had was to centre my rooks
and push my d pawn then my rooks would control the centre and hopefully thiss was going to prove
decisive} Bd6 17. Nh4 {f5 looked a good square for my knight.} Ne7 {He seen it and covered the
square back to my original plan of pushing my d pawn . His knight here on e7 looks very vulnerable
and my knight move may not be waisted. f3 may look good for my queen attacking his rook. but
he can easily play Bb7 and I would loose a move which could be quite crucial. Although I am
happy with the position it is still very even and black is still in the game with chances of
his own if I miss calculate a move.} 18. d4 {my plan here is to open up the centre for my rooks
to come into the game. He is looking to control the b8 h2 diagonal which opening it up could
benefit this diagonal} exd4 19. cxd4 {Black has quite a good game here and opening it up gives
black a few chances d5 would be good square for one of his knights in the future.} Bxg3 $2 {He
is too quick to with this move. I think he thought he could have a pawn here but after Qxp Bf2
would cover all the important pieces. Alhough perhaps not his loosig move it is not a very good
one. 1. After pXB f4 looks very good for my Bishop 2. Bf4 releases and attack on his e7 Knight
at the same time attacks his queen. Black has to find answers to these problems he has created for
himself.} 20. fxg3 { Now the my pieces are threatening the Knight on e7. My next move is going
to be Bf4 unless he can find a move to stop this Be6 protects his knight on e7 and is probably
his best move then he can move hi queen to safety. Things are starting to look very good for
white and Black has a few problems to overcome.} c4 $4 {This is not the move black failed to
deal with my strong threats. My one concern here is could he play g5 and even the outcome of
the final position. He probalbly could at some stage of process. Bf4 Qd7 QxN QXQ RxQ g5 but
after Be5 perhaps would solve this move attacking his Knight then on PxN BxN So I was feeling
very confident here that white was definately in a wining position.} ({If Queen had taken on
g3 it loked very good for white.} 20... Qxg3 21. Bf2 Qc7 22. Qxe7 Qxe7 23. Rxe7) 21. Bf4 Qb6
{Here the pressure was getting to black he obviously thought that it was better to keep the
queens on board and give the knight away. I think maybe he was trying to pressure my isolated
d4 pawn but this oawn could not be taken taken by his rook after QxN I think he saw this too
late.} 22. Qxe7 {[%emt 0:00:02] Black may have seen that his plan did not quite work and
played a move that gives me checkmate in} (22. Qxe7 Rxd4 (22... Qxd4+ 23. Rxd4 Rxd4
24. Qe8+ Nxe8 25. Rxe8#) (22... Be6 {maybe blacks best move but then} 23. Bc7 Rd7 24. Qxd7 Nxd7
25. Bxb6 Nxb6) 23. Qe8+ Nxe8 24. Rxe8#) 22... Nd5 $4 23. Qe8+ {Black Resigns} Rxe8

{A very pleasing game played by me today. Playing my anti Sicillian which seemed
to confuse my opponent a little he did not really get into the game and I was never
in any real trouble I just had to be aware of his h pawn moving forward which if he
had moved it when he could have given me a few problems.} 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. c3
{Usually I play Bd3 here but today I thought I would keep him guessing as I could have
played d4 on my next move.} a6 {Nf6 would have been better for black here. Then if
Bb5 Nc6} 4. h3 {preventing Bg4 although later black was able to play this.} Nc6
5. Bd3 Nf6 6. O-O b5 7. Bc2 h6 8. d3 $2 {not my best move of the game there was a
reason at the time why I decided against d4 but for the life of me now I cannot see
what made me think I could not play d4.} g5 9. d4 {lost a tempo in my last move but
still I had a good game going. To me black had played to many pawn move his king was
now going to stuck in the centre as I could not see him being able to castle as he
had set out his attack plans to attack down the flanks, I could attack down the centre}
cxd4 10. cxd4 g4 11. hxg4 Bxg4 {the pin that is a bit of a nuisance in this setup is
unavoidable it gives black and attacking option down the h file.} 12. Be3 Qc8 $2
{Do not like this move for black it may have been his losing move not sure what black
intended for his queen by placing it on c8 which is usually an open file for the rooks.}
13. Nbd2 h5 14. a4 $4 {According to Fritz this lets black into the game as black
can play h4 I did not see the danger in this at the time but Fritz points out that
it is blacks best move here.} b4 {decides to avoide the exchange of pawns}
15. Rc1 Qd7 16. Bb3 { missed a5 here as black could not have taken it owing to Ba4
and the pin on the queen} (16. a5 Nxa5 17. Ba4 Nc6 18. Bxc6 Qxc6 19. Rxc6) 16... Na5
17. e5 { giving him the choice of taking the Bishop which was his best move although I
considered I still had quite an advantage.} dxe5 18. dxe5 {moved to quickly here touch
the pawn so I had to move it while its not a bad move there were other moves I had
considered the move before such as NxP BxQ NxQ but then I saw BxB and thought that it
would not work. Bxf7 Kxf7 Nxe5+ Ke7 NxQ BxQ NxN+ pxN RxB I looked into this to see if
this would work. I perhaps should have had another look into the move would have loved
to have the Bxp work.} Nd5 { This gives me the game just the move I was hoping he would
make. Now I can play the move I had anticipated.} 19. Bxd5 {this leaves his knight on a5
out of it.} Qxd5 20. Rc5 Qd8 21. Qc2 e6 22. Rc7 {Fritz says the Bg5 was good for white
but I must admit that I did not look into this as I saw Bb6 was good for white and after
BxN Qc6 was excellent} Bf5 23. Qc1 b3 24. Bb6 {Bg5 was again good for white here even Nxb3
was good althought I did not contemplate these moves as I considered that I would be a
piece up here.} Bb4 25. Bxa5 Bxa5 26. Qc6+ Kf8 27. Qc5+ Kg7 28. Qxa5 Rc8 {now I had to
consider how to get out on the pin. I considered playing Rc5 here but it was a chance to
get my other rook into the game} 29. Rfc1 Bc2 {surprise move which I missed now I had to
play Rc5} 30. Rc5 Qd3 31. Qc3 {not the best move again according to Fritz Nxb3 was better
but it is an OK move I was well up here and considered he was less of a threat if there was
less pieces on the board.} Qxc3 32. Rxc3 {definitely not pxQ RxR} Rxc3 33. bxc3 b2 {surpise
move I thought he would play Rb8} 34. Rxc2 Rb8 35. Nd4 {again not the best move I though
about Nb1 but though it would be out of the game so on b1Q NxQ RxN would still be well
on top and not have to worry about the pawn} b1=Q+ 36. Nxb1 Rxb1+ 37. Kh2 Ra1 {now my
a pawn is going to go noway can I stop this but on c4 RxP I cannot play c5 because of
RxN} 38. Nf3 {Now the game is mine for the taking just have to play this out. with my
Rook behind the pawn I can move it down to at least c6 with no trouble. } Rxa4

50. Rb8 Rxc7 51. Nxc7 {There are many ways to win from here.} Ke4 52. Rb5 Kd4
53. Nxe6+ Ke4 54. Nd4 {Nf4 may have been a tad better as it moved the King away from
the the Rook} Kxd4 55. e6 Kc4 {forcing the rook to move could have taken the pawn
but decided on queening my pawn the King would only have the c and d file to move in
and then it would be just a matter of a few moves.} 56. Rb7 Kc5 57. e7 Kd5 58.

{Not a very long game black made a blunder on move 15 which I spotted and took
full advantage of and from then on the game if I played the correct moves was
over as a contest. and perhaps black could have resignedon move 20 or 21.}

is probably better placed.} O-O 8. Nf1 a6 9. Ba4 {this has been played before but
there are more games played with the BxN but white still is scoring well in this

63% wins for white from this position.} b5 10. Bb3 Bg4 11. Ne3 Bxf3 12. Qxf3 Nd4
13. Qh3 Nxb3 14. axb3 Qd7 {Black had played his moves here in about 5 mins either
he knew this opening very well or he was very used to quick play. I had taken
about 15 mins here which is very quick for a slow game but I was comfortable with
my position so I was quite happy with the way things were going. Here I had to decide
if I wanted to take queens off. but my knight was jamming up my position a bit blocking
in my bishop and stopping an uplift of my rook. NF5 looked a very nice square for it
and g6 did not seem to much of a problem with NxB check and QxN Bg5 although not a great
advantage this was looking Ok for me.} 15. Nf5 h6 $4 {This was blacks losing move he had
only take about 10 mins for the 14 moves he had played so far, here he thought about 5
mins for this blunder. did I dare do Bxp I thought I would have a clear advantage after
PxB QxP but was there anything better I thought for about 20 mins as I knew this was
going to be the crucial time in the game. I could see that he had no escape from Bxp all
his defenses would lead to a losing position. I had found a better continuation from QXP}
(15... g6 16. Nxe7+ Qxe7 17. Bg5) 16. Bxh6 gxh6 {again black thought for about 5 mins
again but again he found probably one of the worst moves. My 20 mins was not waisted as
he had played the worse move but is probably what most players of our grade would play.
To be fair black did not have too many good moves . Fritz says Nh5 is the best which I
must admit if he had played this I had not considered a reply to this but it was still
losing.} (16... Nh5 17. Qxh5 g6 18. Nxe7+ Qxe7 19. Bxf8 Qxf8 20. Qh4 {Here Black would
still be playing the game}) 17. Qg3+ { much better than QxP I will now have his Queen or
mate him} Ng4 {his only move to stop Qh7} 18. Qxg4+ Bg5 {again his only move to stop
Qg7} 19. Nxh6+ {The knight has done its work on f5 now to check him and attack his queen}

my plan.} 22. Rxa6 Rxa6 23. Qxa6 {Now I felt very comfortable and only had to play
sensible and not make a blunder with my queen. It should be only a matter of time.}

motions from about move 20.} 24. g3 Kh5 25. Qxb5 f6 26. Qd5 Bd2 {This is really the end}
27. Qxg8 Bxe1 28. Qc4 $4 {This was my worst move of the match I moved it without looking
for checks just saw the pawn weakness and moved. I think because he was moving very
quick now it was making me not think to much about my moves. It's easy when so far
ahead you can turn off and not find the best moves any longer. Why I should move my
