Our En Passant Cup side played Charlton in their first match of the season and drew 3 - 3. At the beginning of the match the Charlton players seemed to be doing quite well. Greg Edwards was the victim of a fine combination, Tony Packham agreed a draw in a level position and Jamie Fountain was always worse and eventually lost. However, by the time Dave Helps’ opponent blundered his queen, Dave was already totally winning. Lee Brockwell, who had been under some pressure, equalised and was probably slightly better when he accepted a draw, as his time situation was not too good. When Ian McAllan won a bishop ending in 73 moves, the match was drawn.
