Bob Mitchell
Bob Mitchell died on 31st December 2024.
He had been a member of the club since 2013, although ill-health had prevented him from coming to the club recently.
Bob played for all the club’s teams except the Intro Cup team. You can find his 101 move game in a Kent League match in a post dated 5th May 2015 on this website – the only Kent League game that I have ever seen going over 100 moves.
Bob was a distinguished New Zealand policeman retiring as a superintendent and a summary of his career can be found in an article of 1st November 2024.
Bob won the New Zealand Seniors Championship a couple of times and after coming to England he enjoyed playing in tournaments under the New Zealand flag. You can find all his games from the 2018 ACO World Seniors tournament, which he won giving him the title World Champion Grade E, annotated by himself in four posts from October 2019 on this website: 1, 2, 3 and 4.
An enthusiastic chess player. We will miss him.
